The Firecracker vine (Manettia inflata) belongs to Rubiaceae (the Madder family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to Paraguay and Uruguay. It is a climbing vine, reaching up to 1.2 m. The leaves are small, ovate, and new ones are produced every year. It produces small, fragrant flowers in summer. The red tubular flowers have yellow tips and are covered with velvety hairs. It is called "粗毛火焔草" (coarse-haired flame grass) in Japanese.
