わが国の本州、関東地方以西から四国・九州、それに台湾から東南アジアにかけて広く分布しています。暖地の林内に生え、高さは３０〜１００センチになります。葉は長楕円形で互生し、縁には波状の鋸歯があります。７月から８月ごろ、枝先に小さな白い花を咲かせ、果実は１１月ごろに赤く熟します。庭木としてよく植栽されています。台湾華語では「硃砂根」です。 |

ヤブコウジ科ヤブコウジ属の常緑小低木で、学名は Ardisia crenata。英名 Coralberry。 |

The Coralberry (Ardisia crenata) belongs to Myrsinaceae (the Myrsine family). It is an evergreen shrub that is distributed westward from Kanto district of Honshu to Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan, as well as in Taiwan and widely in Southeast Asia. This tree grows in warm forests and can reach 30-100 cm in height. The leaves are oblong and alternate with wavy serration. The small white flowers come on the terminal twigs form July to August. The fruits ripen red in November. This tree is usually planted in the gardens. In Taiwanese Chinese, it is called "硃砂根". |
