わが国の本州、関東地方以北から北海道、朝鮮半島や中国中部に分布しています。山地の草地に生え、高さは４０〜５０センチになります。葉は長楕円形で互生します。４月から５月ごろ、葉腋から枝をだして、先端に杯状花序をつけます。子房は滑らかで、紅色を帯びます。また茎や葉が紅色を帯びるため、別名で「べにたいげき（紅大戟）」とも呼ばれます。

トウダイグサ科トウダイグサ属の多年草で、学名は Euphorbia ebracteolara。英名はありません。

"Marumi-nourushi" (Euphorbia ebracteolara) belongs to Euphorbiaceae (the Spurge family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed northward from Kanto-district of Honshu to Hokkaido in Japan, as well as the Korean Peninsula and central China. This herb grows in montane grasslands and can reach 40-50 cm in height. The leaves are oblong and alternate. The cyathia are borne on the axillary branches from April to May. The ovaries are smooth and rose-pink in color. The stems and leaves are tinged rose-pink.
