"Masu-take" (Laetiporus sulphureus var. miniatus) belongs to Polyporaceae (Bracket fungi family). It is an annual fungus that is distributed throughout Japan, the Korean Peninsula, and China. It grows from spring to fall on the ground or on fallen trees such as mizu-nara (Mizunara) and fir (Momi). The pileus is pink to orange-yellow and later turns white. The flesh of the pileus is salmon pink, and the larvae are edible. In Chinese, it is called "朱紅硫磺菌".
