The Maxillaria marginata belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed in eastern and southern Brazil and Ecuador. It grows in tropical biomes at an altitude of 2500 to 3200 m, epiphytic on trees, reaching a height of 30 to 60 cm. The rhizome is long and well branched, producing flat pseudobulbs. From summer to fall, 1 to 2 string-like leaves and a single inflorescence emerge from the pseudobulbs of new shoots, blooming cream-colored flowers.
