The Maxillaria ochroleuca belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed in northern South America and southeastern Brazil. It grows in tropical biomes at altitudes below 1200 m, attaching itself to trees and rocks, and reaching a height of 30 to 60 cm. Pseudobulbs emerge from the rhizome, and a single long, linear leaf extends from them. In spring, a single inflorescence emerges from the leaf sheaths surrounding the base of the mature pseudobulbs, producing sweet-smelling pale cream-colored flowers.
