アメリカの中南部、ミズーリ・カンザス州からテキサス州にかけて分布しています。海岸平野の湿地や草地などに生え、高さは１０〜５０センチになります。葉は平らな線形で対生します。４月から７月ごろ、上部の葉腋から短い花柄をだし、直径２．５センチほどの濃いピンク色の花を咲かせます。花冠は深く５裂し、花色には赤紫色から白色までの変異があります。また中心に星形の黄色い斑があります。雌しべははじめ伏せていますが、成熟すると直立し目立つようになります。

リンドウ科サバティア属の一年草で、学名は Sabatia campestris。英名は Meadow pink、Texas star、Slender marsh pink。

The Meadow pink (Sabatia campestris) belongs to Gentianaceae (the Gentian family). It is an annual herb that is distributed from Missouri-Kansas to Texas in the south-central United States. It grows in wetlands and grasslands on the coastal plain and can reach 10 to 50 cm in height. The leaves are flat, linear and opposite. From April to July, a short peduncles are borne on the upper axils and bloom deep pink flowers with a diameter of about 2.5 cm. The corolla is deeply split into five, and the flower color varies from purplish red to white. There is also a star-shaped yellow spot in the center. The pistil is initially prone, but as it matures it becomes upright and prominent.
