アメリカの南部から南東部に分布しています。わが国では２００４年の夏、園芸品種が市場に流通しはじめました。高さは１５センチほどですがよく広がり、生育旺盛で育てやすいので、グランドカバーやハンギングに利用されます。初夏から秋まで、小さな黄色い花が咲き続けます。写真は、園芸品種の「ゴールドフレーク（Mecardonia acuminata cv. Gold Flake）」。

ゴマノハグサ科メカルドニア属の多年草で、学名は Mecardonia acuminata。英名は Axilflower。

The Axilflower (Mecardonia acuminata) belongs to Scrophulariaceae (the Figwort family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in the southern and southeastern parts of the United States. In Japan, a garden variety was introduced to the market in the summer of 2004. It is about 15 cm tall but spreads well, and is used as a groundcover or hanging plant because of its vigorous growth and ease of cultivation. The small yellow flowers bloom continuously from early summer to fall. The photo shows the garden variety "Gold Flake".
