ヒマラヤのブータンに分布しています。茎は直立し、高さは３０〜９０センチほどになります。葉は細い倒卵形で、細毛に被われています。初夏から盛夏にかけて、穂状花序に鮮やかな青色の花を咲かせます。花弁は４〜８個あります。ブータンの国花です。

ケシ科メコノプシス属の多年草で、学名は Meconopsis horridula。英名はありません。

Meconopsis horridula belongs to Papaveraceae (the Poppy family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in Bhutan, Himalayas. The stems are upright and can reach 30-90 cm in height. The leaves are thin, obovate and covered with fine hairs. The bright blue flowers bloom on the spikes from early summer to midsummer. It is the national flower of Bhutan.
