ニューギニア島に分布しています。標高９００〜２５００メートルの雲霧林帯に生え、樹木や岩上に着生します。偽茎は円筒状から棍棒状で、線状楕円形の葉が３〜４個つきます。秋から春にかけて、新しい偽茎から短い花序をだし、直径６ミリほどの小さなベル形の花を咲かせます。

The Jewel orchid (Mediocalcar decoratum) belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). It is an evergreen herb that is distributed on the island of New Guinea. It grows in cloud forest zones at elevations from 900 to 2500 m and attaches itself to trees and rocks. The pseudostem is cylindrical to club-shaped with three to four linear-elliptic leaves. From fall to spring, short inflorescences emerge from the new pseudostem, producing small bell-shaped flowers about 6 mm in diameter.
