The orange medinilla (Medinilla scortechinii) belongs to Melastmataceae (the Melastome family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to Malaysia and the Philippines. This shrub grows on trees in the mountains, and can reach 60-90 cm in height. The leaves are elliptic to long ovate, arranged in opposite, and have prominent three veins. The much branched inflorescences are borne at the tip of branches, and the many orange flowers bloom from fall to winter. The fruits are blue-black berries.
