北アメリカ原産です。耐暑性が非常に強く、夏も休むことなく開花し続けます。５月から１０月にかけて、直径２センチほどの黄色い頭花を株を被うように咲かせます。セルフクリーニングの性質があり、花がらが目立ちにくいのも大きな長所となっています。

キク科メランポジウム属の一年草で、学名は Melampodium paludosum。英名は Gold medallion flower。

The Gold medallion flower (Melampodium paludosum) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is an annual herb that is native to North America. The many yellow flower-heads come over the plants from May through October. The flowers are about 2 cm across and having self-cleaning mechanism.
