The Memecylon floribundum belongs to Melastmataceae (the Melastome family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to Indonesia. It grows in tropical rainforests and can grow up to 3 m tall. The leaves are 15 cm long, ovate, glossy, and opposite. There is no petiole. The flowers are produced in the leaf axils with lilac sepals and dark blue petals. The fruit is spherical, pink at first, but turns black when ripe.
