アメリカ中南部のテキサス州からメキシコに分布しています。乾燥地帯に生え、高さは３０～４０センチになります。葉は心形で葉柄があり、互生します。５月から１１月ごろ、葉腋から花柄を伸ばして、直径４～５センチの鮮やかな赤色の花を咲かせます。和名は仮称です。

アオイ科フヨウ属の多年草で、学名は Hibiscus cardiophyllus（syn. Hibiscus martianus）。英名は Heart-leaf rosemallow、Heart-leaf hibiscus。

The Heart-leaf rosemallow (Hibiscus cardiophyllus) belongs to Malvaceae (the Mallow family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Texas in the south-central United States to Mexico. It grows in arid areas and is 30-40 cm tall. From May to November, bright red flowers, 4 to 5 cm in diameter, bloom from the leaf axils with peduncles extending from the stalks. The Japanese name "メキシコ姫芙蓉" is tentative.
