わが国の固有種で、本州の中部地方以北から北海道に分布しています。山地帯から亜高山帯の林縁や道端、湿地に生えて、高さは２０〜６０センチになります。茎には３稜があり、葉は２〜３ミリの線形です。５月から７月ごろ、穂状花序に花を咲かせます。果胞の基部は丸く、先は長いくちばしになります。

カヤツリグサ科スゲ属の多年草で、学名は Carex albata。英名はありません。

"Minoboro-suge" (Carex albata) belongs to Cyperaceae (the Sedge family). It is a perennial herb that is an endemic species of Japan, and it is distributed from Chubu district of Honshu north to Hokkaido. This herb grows in the mountainous area to the subalpine forest edges, roadsides and wetlands, and 20-60 cm in height. The stems have three ridges an the leaves are 2-3 mm wide, linear. The flowers bloom in spikes from May to July. The base of the follicle is round and the tip is a long beak.
