The Maud's michelia (Michelia maudiae) belong to Magnoliaceae (the Magnolia family). It is a tall evergreen tree that is native to south-eastern China, from Hunan east to Zhejiang. This tree grows in forests and can reach about 20 m in height. The flowers are frangrant, pure white, Magnolia-like and bloom in February. The corolla are about 10 cm acress and has nine tepals. The outer seplas are three, obovate and the inner sepals are six, narrower and smaller. The Chinese name is "深山含笑 (Shen shan han xiao)".
