"Michinoku-engosaku" (Corydalis capillipes) belongs to the Fumariaceae (the Fumitory family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed to the Japan Sea Side of Honshu, from Chubu region north to Tohoku region. This herb grows on the forest floors of the mountainous area and up to a height of 10-20 cm. It is similar to "Yama-engosaku" but it is smaller and the flowers are slender. The leaves are trifoliate to triternate compound with linear to narrow round leaflets, there are many changes in shape. The flowering stalks are borne and bloom sparsely light blue purple, small flowers from April to May. The flower is 5-10 mm in length with square-shaped lips, and the bracts are notched or entire.
