みふくらぎ (目膨木)

わが国の南西諸島から東南アジア、インドそれにポリネシアやオーストラリアに分布しています。海岸近くに生え、高さは１０メートルほどになります。果実は海流にのって散布されます。花は白色で芳香があります。樹皮や葉、種子には毒があり、沖縄では樹液が目に入ると腫れることから「みーふくらぎ」とか「みーふっかーぎ」と呼ばれています。また別名で、「おきなわきょうちくとう（沖縄夾竹桃）」とも呼ばれます。 |

キョウチクトウ科ミフクラギ属の常緑小高木で、学名は Cerbera manghas。英名は Grey milkwood、Sea mango。 |

The Grey milkwood (Cerbera manghas) belongs to Apocynaceae (the Dogbane family). It is a semi-tall evergreen tree that is distributed from the Nansei Islands of Japan to Southeast Asia, India, Polynesia and Australia. This tree grows near the coast and is about 10 m high. The fruits are sprayed along the ocean current. The flowers are white and fragrant. The bark, leaves, and seeds are poisonous, and in Okinawa they are called "Mi-fukuragi" or "Mi-fukkagi" because they swell when the sap gets into the eyes. Another name is "Okinawa Oleander". |
