ヨーロッパの西南部が原産です。やや標高の高いところに生えます。高さは10〜35センチですが、匍匐性があります。葉は線形で、「ローズマリー」の葉に似ています。4月から5月ごろ、鮮やかな紫色や青色、白色などの花をいっぱい咲かせます。 
ムラサキ科ムラサキ属の常緑小低木で、学名は Lithospermum diffusum。英名は Scrambling gromwell。 
The Scrambling gromwell (Lithospermum diffusum) belongs to Boraginaceae (the Borage family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to the southwestern part of Europe. This shrub grows at a slightly higher altitude. The height is 10-35 cm, but it is crawling. The leaves are linear and resemble "rosemary" leaves. The many bright purple, blue, and white flowers come in bloom from April to May.
