わが国の本州、福井県以西の日本海側および朝鮮半島南部に分布しています。海岸や山地の岩場に生え、高さは１メートルほどになります。葉は広卵形で互生し、浅く３裂します。４月から５月ごろ、枝先に集散花序をだし、白色から淡紅色の小さな花を咲かせます。別名で、「たんごいわがさ（丹後岩傘）」とも呼ばれます。

バラ科シモツケ属の落葉小低木で、学名は Spiraea blumei var. obtusa。英名はありません。

"Mitsuba-iwagasa" (Spiraea blumei var. obtusa) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a deciduous shrub that is distributed westward from Fukui prefecture to the Japan Sea side of Honshu in Japan and southern Korean Peninsula. This shrub grows in coastal scrags or mountain slopes and can reach about 1 m in height. The leaves are alternate, broad ovate and divided into 3 lobes shallowly. The cymes are borne on the terminal branches and bloom small white to pale rose-pink flowers from April to May.
