わが国の固有種で、本州の中部地方以北に分布しています。「じしばり（地縛り）」の高山変種です。亜高山帯から高山帯の草地に生え、高さは５〜１２センチになります。長い匍匐枝を伸ばし、節から根を出して広がります。葉は卵形で柔らかく、長い葉柄があります。７月から８月ごろ、葉のあいだから花茎を伸ばし、黄色い頭花を咲かせます。

キク科ニガナ属の多年草で、学名は Ixeris stolonifera var. capillaris。英名はありません。

"Miyama-iwa-nigana" (Ixeris stolonifera var. capillaris) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is endemic to Japan and distributed northward from Chubu district of Honshu. It is an alpine variety of Creeping lettuce (Ixeris stolonifera). This herb grows in sub-alpine to alpine grasslands and can reach 5-12 cm in height. It spreads by stolons and bears fibrils at the nodes. The leaves are ovate and soft with long petioles. "Miyama-iwa-nigana" produces the flowering stalks among the leaves and bloom yellow flower-heads from July to August.
