The Climbing hempvine (Mikania scandens) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from the eastern to central parts of the United States and in Mexico. It grows in shrub zones, wetlands and along riverbanks, and is a vine that grows to a height of around 1.5 m. The leaves are triangular or cordate, sometimes serrated, and have leaf stalks. From August to September, pink, purple or white flower heads bloom in the panicle at the top of the stem. The fruit is an achene, and the seeds have white or purple pappus.
