わが国の固有種で、本州の中部地方以北から東北地方に分布しています。亜高山帯から高山台の岩場や砂礫地などに生え、高さは５〜１５センチになります。根生葉は線状披針形で、白い剛毛が生えます。７月から８月ごろ、茎頂に淡い青紫色の花を咲かせます。花冠の咽には黄色の鱗片があります。

ムラサキ科ミヤマムラサキ属の多年草で、学名は Eritrichium nipponicum。英名はありません。

"Miyama-murasaki" (Eritrichium nipponicum) belongs to Boraginaceae (the Borage family). It is a perennial herb that is endemic to Japan, and distributed northward from Chubu district to Tohoku district of Honshu. This herb grows in sub-alpine to alpine rocky places and screes, and can reach 5-15 cm in height. The basal leaves are linear lanceolate with white bristle hairs. The pale blue-purple flowers bloom atop of stems from July to August. The corolla has yellow scales at the center.
