The "Mine-kaede" (Acer tschonoskii) belongs to Aceraceae (the Maple family). It is a semi-tall deciduous tree that is distributed northward from Shizuoka-Fukui prefecture of Honshu to Hokkaido and the southern Kuril Islands. This tree grows in sub-alpine zone and can reach 8-10 m in height. The leaves are divided into 5-7 lobes palmately, and the lobes are pinnatisect with duplicato-serratus edges. The tips of lobe are not caudate. The pale yellow flowers bloom in the racemes from June to July. The fruits are samaras with right angle opened wings.
