The "Miyama-niga-ichigo" (Rubus koehneanus) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a small deciduous tree that is native to northward from Kinki district to Tohoku district of Honshu of Japan. This tree grows in montane to subalpine forest edges and it can reach about 1 m in height. The leaves are long-ovate and usually divided into 3 lobes with duplicato-serratus edges. The short twigs are borne on the axiles of young branches and bloom white flowers from May to June. The fruits are aggregates and ripen red. They are edible though having bitter taste in the stones.
