メキシコから南アメリカの北部にかけて分布しています。蔓性で成長が早く、長さは３〜６メートルになります。葉は３裂しています。夏から秋にかけて、花柄を伸ばして赤橙色の壺形の花を並んで咲かせます。時間が経つにつれて、橙色から黄色、そして白色へと花の色が変化します。名前は、古い学名（Mina lobata）から。

ヒルガオ科サツマイモ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Ipomoea lobata。英名は Firecracker vine、Spanish flag。

The firecracker vine (Ipomoea lobata) belongs to Convolvulaceae (the Morning glory family). It is an evergreen herb that is distributed from Mexico to the northern part of South America. This herb is a trailing vine, grows fast and up to a length of 3-6 m. The leaves are divided into 3 lobes. It extend the peduncles and blooms in order red orange pot shaped flowers from summer to fall. Over time, the color of flowers changes from orange to yellow and to white. The name is derived from the old scientific name "Mina lobata".
