わが国の本州中南部、静岡県三島地方の特産種。１９３０年に三島市にあり、富士山の伏流水の湧出により形成されている小浜池で発見されました。清流に育つ沈水植物で、群生します。５月から９月ごろ、「うめ（梅）」に似たかれんな小さな白色の花を咲かせます。

キンポウゲ科キンポウゲ属の多年草で、学名は Ranunculus nipponicus var. japonicus。英名はありません。

"Mishima-baika-mo" (Ranunculus nipponicus var. japonicus) belongs to Ranunculaceae (the Buttercup family). It is a perennial herb that is endemic to central-southern Honshu in Japan, Mishima region in Shizuoka prefecture. It was discovered in 1930 at Kohamaga Ike Pond which is formed by the gush of subsoil water of Mount Fuji. This herb is a submerged plant that grows gregariously in limpid streams. The Japanese apricot-like, pretty little, white flowers bloom from May to September.
