わが国の各地に分布しています。平地から低山地の湿地に生え、高さは３０〜８０センチになります。葉は線形で幅８〜１５ミリ、裏面は粉白色です。５月から６月ごろ、花茎を伸ばして先端に雄小穂と、その下に２〜６個の雌小穂をつけます。苞は長い葉状、果胞は卵形です。

カヤツリグサ科スゲ属の多年草で、学名は Carex olivacea var. angustior。英名はありません。

"Miyama-shira-suge" (Carex olivacea var. angustior) belongs to Cyperaceae (the Sedge family). It is a perennial herb that is native all over Japan. This herb grows in marshes of flats or montane regions and can reach 30-80 cm in height. Te leaves are linear 8-15 mm wide, and the reverse sides are powdery white. The male spikelet is borne on the stalk apices, and the 2-6 female spikelest are below the male one from May to June. The bracts are foliated, and the perigynium is ovate.
