わが国の固有種で、本州の中部地方以北から東北地方に分布しています。亜高山帯から高山帯の草地や礫地に生え、高さは1〜1.5メートルになります。茎は太くて中空です。葉の表面は、明るい緑色でやや光沢があります。8月から9月ごろ、茎の先に大きな複散形花序を出して、白い小さな花をいっぱいに咲かせます。

セリ科シシウド属の多年草で、学名は Angelica matsumurae。英名はありません。

"Miyama-shishiudo" (Angelica matsumurae) belongs to Apiaceae (the Carrot family). It is a perennial herb that is endemic to Japan and distributed northward from Chubu to Tohoku district of Honshu. This herb grows in sub-alpine to alpine grasslands and screes, and can reach 1-1.5 m in height. The stems are thick and mid-air. The leaves are bright green and glossyish. The large compound umbels are borne at the tip of stems, and the numerous, small white flwoers bloom in August through September.
