"Misuzu-sumire" (Viola cv. Misuzu) belongs to Violaceae (the Viola family). It is a perennial herb that is a crossbreed between the Manchurian violet, which grows in various parts of Japan, and the Yakushima-sumire, the Amami-sumire, and the Yaeyama-sumire, which are native to the southwestern islands. It is usually called the "Misuzu-type" violet. The variety name in the photo is "Oshima-chidori".
