"Michinoku-fukuju-so" (Adonis multiflora) belongs to Ranunculaceae (the Buttercup family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from the Tohoku to the Chubu district on the island of Honshu, and on the island of Kyushu. This herb grows in broad-leaved forests, stream banks, and grassy slopes, and can reach 20-30 cm in height. It spreads by thick rhizomes. Leaves are broadly triangular and pinnately divided into 3-4 leaflets. Its bright yellow flowers bloom from March to April. Adonis multiflora usually has five sepals and the sepals are characteristically one-half to two-thirds the length of the petals. (edit by Greg Brockelbank)
