わが国の固有種で、本州の東北地方南部から富山県までの日本海側に分布しています。亜高山帯から高山帯の草地に生え、高さは５０〜１００センチになります。葉は掌状に３深裂から３中裂します。８月から９月ごろ、葉腋から総状花序をだし、かぶと形の青紫色の花を咲かせます。

キンポウゲ科トリカブト属の多年草で、学名は Aconitum nipponicum。英名はありません。

"Miyama-torikabuto" (Aconitum nipponicum) belongs to Ranunculaceae (the Buttercup family). It is a perennial herb that is endemic to Japan and distributed along the Japan Sea side, southward from southern Tohoku district to Toyama Prefecture in Honshu. This herb grows in subalpine to alpine areas and can reach 50-100 cm in height. The leaves are deeply trilobate to intermediate trilobate. The racemes are borne on the axiles and produce helmet-shaped, bluish-purple flowers from August to September. (edit by Greg Brockelbank)
