わが国の北海道の日高地方、本州の東北南部から中部地方、それに朝鮮半島や中国に分布しています。低山帯から亜高山帯の湿原や湿った草地に生え、高さは３０〜１００センチになります。葉は奇数羽状複葉で、根生葉の小葉は９〜１３個、茎葉の小葉は５〜１１個あります。小葉は長楕円形から狭長楕円形です。８月から９月ごろ、茎頂に暗紫色の花序を１〜５個つけます。花は花序の上端から下部に向かって咲き、長い雄しべは花序から突き出ます。中国語では「長葉地楡（chang ye di yu）」と呼ばれます。

バラ科ワレモコウ属の多年草で、学名は Sanguisorba longifolia (syn. Sanguisorba officinalis var. longifolia)。英名は Long-leaf burnet。

The Long-leaf burnet (Sanguisorba longifolia) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in the Hidaka region of Hokkaido, from southern Tohoku to the Chubu region of Honshu in Japan, as well as on the Korean Peninsula and in China. It grows in low mountain to subalpine wetlands and moist grasslands, reaching heights of 30 to 100 cm. The leaves are odd-pinnate compound leaves. The basal leaves have 9 to 13 leaflets, while the cauline leaves have 5 to 11 leaflets. The leaflets are oblong to narrowly oblong. From August to September, 1 to 5 dark purple inflorescences appear at the stem apex. The flowers bloom from the top downwards along the inflorescence, with the long stamens protruding beyond the inflorescence.
