"Miyama-akebono-so" (Swertia perennis ssp. cuspidata) belongs to Gentianaceae (the Gentian family). It is a perennial herb that is endemic to Japan, and distributed to Mt. Hayachine, the Northern-Central-Southern Alps and Mt. Yatsugatake. Ths herb grows in alpine screes and grasslands, and can reach 15-35 cm in height. The basal leaves are elliptic or broad ovate and entire, and the cauline leaves are ovate and small. The 1-10 dark purple flowers bloom in corymbs-like atop of stems from August to September.
