"Miyama-yaemurasaki" (Hydrangea serrata f. Miyama-yaemurasaki) belongs to Hydrangeaceae (the Hydrangea family). It is a small deciduous tree that grows wild in the Horikoshi Pass in Miyama Town in the northern part of Kyoto Prefecture in Honshu, Japan. It is a variety of the "Yama-ajisai", characterized by its double-petaled flowers, which bloom from late May to late June with bright blue-purple blossoms. The flowers turn dark purple in acidic soils and pink in neutral soils.
