わが国の南西諸島の宮古島、それにインドネシアやニューギニア、ポリネシアに分布しています。海岸の砂地や石灰岩上に生え、茎は匍匐して、節から根をだして広がります。葉は卵状広楕円形から円形で、両面に軟毛があり対生します。５月から９月ごろ、穂状花序をだして、小さな紫色を帯びた白い花を咲かせます。別名で「ひろはさぎごけ（広葉鷺苔）」とも呼ばれます。

キツネノマゴ科ヒロハサギゴケ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Hemigraphis okamotoi。英名はありません。

"Miyakojima-so" (Hemigraphis okamotoi) belongs to Acanthaceae (the Ruellia family). It is an evergreen herb that is distributed to Miyako Island of the Ryukyu Islands in Japan, as well as Indonesia, New Guinea and Polynesia. This herb grows on sandy shores and limestones. The stems crawl on the grounds and spread by the roots at nodes. The leaves are ovate-elliptic to round, arranged in opposite and covered with soft hairs on the both sides. This plant bears the spikes and produces the small purple tinged white flowers from May to September.
