"Miyama-usuyuki-so" (Leontopodium fauriei) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed to Tohoku district of Honshu in Japan. This herb grows on windy grassland of the Iide Mountains, the Asahi Mountains, Mt. Gassan, Mt. Chohkai, Mt. Yakeishi and Mt. Akita-Komagatake, and up to a height of 4-15 cm. The leaves are linear lanceolate and basal. The 4-10 head flowers with tubular flowers gathered bloom on the stem top from July to August. The 8-13 bracts, which look like white petals, surround the head flower. The bracts are covered with white fluff. It is also known as "Hina-usuyuki-so".
