わが国の各地をはじめ、台湾や朝鮮半島、中国、インド、ヨーロッパに分布しています。湿田や湿地などに生え、高さは５０〜８０センチになります。細長い根茎を伸ばして広がり、群生します。葉は線形で幅５〜８ミリ、根生します。８月から１０月ごろ、茎頂に５〜７個の花序枝をだし、緑色の小穂をつけます。小穂は次第に濃い赤紫色に変わります。台湾華語では「水莎草」、中国語では「水莎草（shui suo cao）」と呼ばれます。 |

The Tidal-marsh flatsedge (Cyperus serotinus) belongs to Cyperaceae (the Sedge family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed all over Japan, as well as Taiwan, the Korean Peninsula, India and Europe. This herb grows in wet paddy and marshes, and can reach 50-80 cm in height. It spreads by narrow rhizomes and clumping. The leaves are linear 5-8 mm wide and basal. The 5-7 branches of inflorescences are borne on the stem apices from August to October. The spikelets are green at first and shade into deep reddish purple. In Taiwanese Chinese, it is called "水莎草" and "水莎草" (shui suo cao). |
