わが国の各地をはじめ、台湾や朝鮮半島、中国、インドネシアに分布しています。草むらや山地の木陰などに生え、高さは３０〜５０センチになります。葉は長楕円形で互生します。９月から１０月ごろ、茎頂から細い総状花序を伸ばして、赤色の小さな花をまばらに咲かせます。和名は、この花をつけた花穂のかたちを赤い水引に、また花の上が赤く下が白いのを紅白の水引に見たてたとも言われています。台湾華語では「金線草」、中国語では「金線草（jin xian cao）」と呼ばれます。 |

タデ科イヌタデ属の多年草で、学名は Persicaria filiformis (syn. Polygonum filiforme)。英名はありません。 |

The "Mizu-hiki" (Persicaria filiformis) belongs to the Polygonaceae (the Knotweed family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed to throughout Japan, as well as Taiwan, the Korean Peninsula, China and Indonesia. This herb grows in tussoks or montane shady places and can reach 30-50 cm in height. The leaves are oblong and alternate. The slender racemes are borne on the shoot apices and bloom small red flowers sparsely. It is said that the Japanese name “mizuhiki” comes from the shape of the spike with the flower on it, which looks like a red mizuhiki, and the red top and white bottom of the flower, which looks like a red and white mizuhiki. It is called "金線草" in Taiwanese Huayu and "金線草" (jin xian cao) in Chinese. |
