インドや東南アジアに分布しています。河川や池沼に生え、長さは１〜１．４メートルほどになります。茎のまわりに浮き袋があり、水面を這うよう広がります。葉は「おじぎそう（含羞草）」に似た羽状複葉で、黄色い花を咲かせます。葉や軟らかい茎は、タイ料理やベトナム料理に利用されますが、味や香りには癖があるそうです。

マメ科ネプチュニア属の常緑多年草で、学名は Neptunia oleracea。英名は Water mimosa。

The Water mimosa (Neptunia oleracea) belongs to Fabaceae (the Pea family). It is an evergreen herb that is distributed in India and Southeast Asia. It grows in rivers and ponds and is 1 to 1.4 m long. The stem has a floating bag around it, which spreads out like a crawl on the surface of the water. The leaves are pinnate compound leaves similar to those of the "Sensitive plant", and it produces yellow flowers. The leaves and soft stems are used in Thai and Vietnamese cuisine, but they are said to have a peculiar taste and aroma.
