わが国の本州から四国・九州、それに朝鮮半島に分布しています。池沼や湿地に生え、高さは３０〜５０センチほどになります。茎には４稜があり、線形の葉が３〜４輪生します。８月から１０月ごろ、茎の先の穂状花序に淡紅色の花を咲かせます。

シソ科ミズトラノオ属の多年草で、学名は Eusteralis yatabeana。英名はありません。

"Mizu-toranoo" (Eusteralis yatabeana) belongs to Labiaceae (the Mint family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed to Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan, as well as the Korean Peninsula. This herb grows in ponds and marshes, and can reach 30-50 cm in height. The stem is quadrangular and whorles 3-4 linear leaves. The spikes are borne on the stem tips and bloom pale rose pink flowers from August to October.
