中国の中南部が原産です。わが国へは江戸時代中期に渡来しました。名前は、中国名の「木香花（Mu Xiang Hua）」を音読みしたものです。４月から５月ごろ、枝先に淡い黄色や白色の八重の花を咲かせます。この「ばら」には棘がありません。眞子内親王のお印の花だそうです。

バラ科バラ属の常緑低木で、学名は Rosa banksiae。英名は Banksia rose。

The banksia rose (Rosa banksiae) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a small evergreen tree that is native to central-southern China. This tree was introduced into Japan in the medium-term of Edo Era (about 250 years ago). The pale yellow or white flowers appear from April to May. This rose is spineless. The banksia rose is the seal flower of Princess Mako of Akishino.
