	わが国の本州、日本海側と朝鮮半島、中国に分布しています。成長が早く、高さは１０メートルほどになります。葉は奇数羽状複葉で、小葉は３～７対あり、卵形です。この葉のかたちから別名で、「せんだんばのぼだいじゅ（栴檀葉の菩提樹）」とも呼ばれます。７月から８月ごろ、枝先に円錐花序をだし、黄色い花を咲かせます。果実は蒴果で１０月ごろに熟します。寺院によく植えられています。花は目薬や黄色染料に、種子は数珠に利用されます。
	ムクロジ科モクゲンジ属の落葉高木で、学名は Koelreuteria paniculata。英名は Golden rain tree。
	The golden rain tree (Koelreuteria paniculata) belongs to Sapindaceae (the Soapberry family). It is a tall deciduous tree that is distributed in the Japan Sea Side of Honshu in Japan, as well as the Korean Peninsula and China. This tree grows fast and can reach about 10 m in height. The leaves are imparipinnate, the leaflets are 3-7 pairs and ovate. The panicles are borne at the terminal branches and bloom yellow flowers in July to August. The fruits are capsules and ripen in October. This tree is often planted in temples. The flowers are used for eye lotion and the seeds are used for beads.
