中国の南西部から西アジアに分布しています。森林に生え、高さは２０メートルほどになります。樹皮は灰色で平滑です。葉は掌状に浅く５〜７裂し、全縁で先端は細くなります。秋には鮮やかな黄色に黄葉します。晩春、葉の展開と同時に、直立する複総状花序をだし、黄緑色の花を咲かせます。果実は翼果で、翼はほぼ水平に開きます。中国語では「青皮楓（qing pi feng）」と呼ばれます。

The Cappadocian maple (Acer cappadocicum) belongs to Aceraceae (the Maple family). It is a tall deciduous tree that is native to southwestern China, west to Western Asia. This tree grows in forests and can reach up to 20 m in height. The barks are gray and smooth. The leaves are palmately lobed with 5-7 lobes and entire with thin tips. They turn bright yellow in fall. The erect compound racemes are borne and the greenish-yellow flowers bloom as soon as foliation in late spring. The fruits are samaras with horisontal opened wings. In Chinese, it is called "青皮楓" (qing pi feng).
