アメリカの中南部、テキサス州南部からメキシコそしてグアテマラに分布しています。高さは２０メートルほどになり、灰色から褐色の樹皮は鱗状に剥離します。葉は楕円形から卵形または披針状卵形で、葉柄があり全縁です。果実は半球状または漏斗形の堅果で、直径は１〜２センチほどです。

ブナ科コナラ属の半常緑高木で、高さは Quercus polymorpha。英名は Monterrey oak、Mexican white oak。

The Monterrey oak (Quercus polymorpha) belongs to Fagaceae (the Beech family). It is a tall semi-evergreen tree that is distributed from central-southern United States, southern Texas to Mexico and Guatemala. This tree can reach about 20 m in height. The bark is gray to brown, and furrowed into large scaly ridges. The leaves are elliptic to ovate, lanceolate-ovate, and entire with petioles. The fruit is hemispherical or choanoid nut which measures 1-2 cm long.
