アメリカのテキサス州からメキシコ北東部に分布しています。石灰岩質の丘陵や茂み、平原などに生え、高さは１．２〜２．１メートルになります。茎は直立して分枝し、軟毛が生えます。葉は光沢のある鮮緑色で線形、まとまってつきます。冬から春にかけて、白色の花を咲かせます。

ニシキギ科モルトニア属の常緑小低木で、学名は Mortonia greggii。英名は Gregg's mortonia、Gregg's saddlebush。

The Gregg's mortonia (Mortonia greggii) belongs to Celastraceae (the Bittersweet family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to Texas in the United States and northeast Mexico. This shrub grows in limestone hillsides, thickets or plaines and can reach 1.2-2.1 m in height. The stem is pubescent, erect and branched. The leaves are linear, glossy bright green and crowded. The white flowers come in winter and spring.
