オーストラリアの東部、クイーンズランド州からニューサウスウェールズ州、ビクトリア州に分布しています。雨林の林内や林縁に生え、他の樹木などに絡みついて伸び、長さは２〜３メートルになります。葉は卵形から披針形で対生し、ダニなどが棲む「ドマティア（Domatia）」と呼ばれる小室が１〜４個あります。１１月から１月ごろ、上部の葉腋から花序をだし、芳香のある白色からオレンジ色の花を咲かせます。果実は不規則なかたちで、３月から４月ごろにオレンジ色に熟しますが、食べられません。属名は「インディアンマルベリー（Indian mulberry）」を意味します。

アカネ科ヤエヤマアオキ属の常緑蔓性小低木で、学名は Morinda jasminoides。英名は Jasmine morinda、Sweet morinda。

The jasmine morinda (Morinda jasminoides) belongs to Rubiaceae (the Madder family). It is an evergreen trailing vine that is distributed in eastern Australia, from Queensland to New South Wales and Victoria. This shrub grows in the rainforests and on the edge of the forests, entwines with other trees, and grows to a length of 2 to 3 m. The leaves are ovate to lanceolate, opposite and have 1 to 4 small chambers called "Domatia" where mites and other animals live. The inflorescences are borne on the upper axils and bloom fragrant white to orange flowers from November to January. The fruits are irregular and ripen orange from March to April, but are inedible. The genus name "Morinda" means "Indian mulberry".
