	わが国の各地をはじめ、北半球に広く分布しています。低地から高山帯までの日当たりの良い湿地に生えます。杓子状の葉の表面にある多数の腺毛の先から粘液をだして、小さな昆虫を捕まえて消化する食虫植物です。この腺毛が赤い色をしているため、密生すると赤い毛氈を敷いたように見えます。６月から８月ごろ、細長い花茎を伸ばして、小さな白い５弁花を咲かせます。
	モウセンゴケ科モウセンゴケ属の多年草で、学名は Drosera rotundifolia。英名は Round leaf sundew、Sundew。
	The Round leaf sundew (Drosera rotundifolia) belongs to Droseraceae (the Sundew family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed all over Japan and widely in the Northern Hemisphere. This herb grows in lowland to alpine, sunny bogs. It is a carnivorous plant. The upper surface of the spoon-shaped leaf is densely covered with glandular hairs that secrete a sticky mucilage and capture insects. The drops of mucilage are bright red. The small, white, five-petaled flowers bloom on the elongated flowering stalks from June to August.
