わが国の本州、関東地方以西から四国・九州それに台湾や朝鮮半島南部、中国に分布しています。海岸の常緑樹林内や林縁に生えます。葉は掌状複葉で互生します。４月から５月ごろ、葉腋から短い総状花序をだし、淡黄白色の花を咲かせます。花には花弁がなく萼片が並びます。果実は１０月から１１月ごろに紫色に熟し、食用になります。「あけび」と異なり、果実は裂開しません。 |

アケビ科ムベ属の常緑木本で、学名は Stauntonia hexaphylla。英名は Japanese staunton vine。 |

The Japanese staunton vine (Stauntonia hexaphylla) belongs to the family Lardizabalaceae. It is an evergreen woody vine that is distributed westward from Kanto district of Honshu to Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan, as well as Taiwan, the southern Korean Peninsula and China. This vine grows in coastal evergreen forests or forest edges. The leaves are palmately compound and alternate. The short racemes are borne on the axiles and bloom pale yellowish white flowers from April to May. The flower is non-petaled and consists of sepals. The fruits are ripen in purple from October to November. They are not splitting open. |
