ニューギニアが原産です。熱帯雨林に生え、他の樹木などに絡みついてよじ登ります。長さ９０〜１２０センチの総状花序を下垂させ、かぎ爪のような朱赤色の花を咲かせます。果実は莢果で、ハンバーグのようなかたちの種子が入っています。

マメ科トビカズラ属の常緑蔓性低木で、学名は Mucuna albertisii。英名は Hamburger bean、Sea bean。

The hamburger bean (Mucuna albertisii) belongs to Fabaceae (the Pea family). It is an evergreen woody vine that is native to New Guinea. This tree grows in the rainforest and climbs entwined with other trees. The racemes, which are 90 to 120 cm in length, hang down and bloom vermilion flowers like claws. The fruits are pods and contain seeds shaped like a hamburger.
